REGULAR MEETING WITHIN SCIENTIFIC EDUCATIONAL CYCLE “SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH: FROM A TO Z”

19.03.2018

The fourth meeting of students and young scientists within scientific educational cycle “Scientific research: from A to Z” was held on 14, March. 2018 at department of social medicine and public health, at which they considered the problems on use of statistical methods for processing and analysis of data from clinical epidemiological researches.

The event was held according to the order by O.O. Bogomolets NMU No 692, dd. 10.11.2017 “About organization of continuous scientific education for members in O.A. Kysil Students’ Scientific Society and young scientists of university”. During the speech and presentation, made by assistant at department Inshakova H.V., they disclosed the statistical methods of processing and analysis of data, received during performed research, as well as provided with the methodology for their assessment in details. During the lecture they presented the analysis on type of data and metric scales, to which they belonged, provided with characteristics of absolute and derivatives values, mentioned the calculation of relative and average indices, provided with classification of statistical totalities that are studied, as well as the algorithm for assessment of data normal distribution. The lecturer described the principle for comparison of totalities – analysis of “zero hypothesis”, concept about internal and external validity, clinical and statistical significance. The lecturer in details presented the criteria for assessment of probability in received results: parametric and non-parametric methods, standardization method, time series, trends, prognoses. The attendants were also acquainted with dispersion analysis, including one factor (ANOVA) and multi factor (MANOVA). The assessment of interrelation in statistical totality was considered, namely: correlation regressive analysis, paired and multiple correlation coefficients, coefficients of association and contingency, equations of regression. The analysis of patient survival was presented to calculate different values, related to the time of observation for patient, in particular, Kaplan-Mayor methodology. In order better to learn the material, the lecturer provided with the examples for application of statistical methods for data processing and their assessment. The electronic variant of presentation was provided to any, who wished.
