MEDICAL FACULTY NO 3: HEALTHY CHILDREN – HEALTHY NATION!
Healthy children – healthy nation.
Pediatrics is one of the most important spheres of medicine as namely this specialty aims to preserve and to restore the health status of a child enabling it maximally realizing its inborn potential of life. Pediatrics is not just the specialty, this is the call of the soul, separate philosophy and approach, and this is the proximity of an incredible number of sciences.
Medical faculty No 3 goes back to the far 1930 when the faculty of mother and child welfare was founded at Kyiv medical institute. Since 1934 the faculty was renamed into pediatric one. In November, 2015 we celebrated our 85th anniversary. During its existence the faculty has the incredible achievements that are confirmed by a number and capacity both of clinical departments and teachers and professors’ staff, and namely ten clinical departments and two theoretical departments of faculty are located in 35 medical preventive establishments at Chief administration of health care in city Kyiv.
The professors and teachers staff includes 172 teachers.
Among teachers of faculty there are:
- 36 professors,
- 55 assistant professors,
- 81 assistants
(Among them 37 Doctors and 111 Candidates of Medicine).
At the faculty there are:
- 2 academicians in NAMS of Ukraine,
- 3 academicians in ASHE of Ukraine,
- 1 academician in Ukrainian AS,
- 7 Honorary Doctors of Ukraine,
- 6 Honorary Scientists and Technicians of Ukraine,
- 6 laureates of State Prizes of Ukraine
Academician Vitaliy Maydannyk – president in Federation of pediatricians in CIS countries, vice-president in Association of pediatricians of Ukraine, academician Petro Fomin – member in Board and Presidium of Ukrainian society of surgeons, Chief extraordinary specialist at MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Surgery”; corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine; Oleksandr Volosovets – chairman in Commission of MHC of Ukraine on assessment of quality in education, deputy Chairman in Coordination council on postgraduate education at Ministry of health care of Ukraine; corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine; Yuriy Chaykovskyy – president in Scientific society of AHET (anatomists, histologists, embryologists and topographical anatomists); professor Lyzogub V.G. – director in “Scientific expert center of medical aids, created on the basis of nanotechnologies at NAS of Ukraine”; professor Petrenko V.I. is at the head of Association of phthisiologists, pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons in c. Kyiv; professor Glumcher F.S. – president in Association of anesthesiologists of Ukraine; professor Gychka S.G. – president in Association of pathologists of Ukraine; professor Levytskyy A.F. – member in presidium in board of Ukrainian Association of traumatologists and orthopedists; professor Kramaryov S.O. – member in presidium of Association of infectiologists of Ukraine, Chief extraordinary specialists at MHC of Ukraine in specialty “children’s infectious diseases”; professor Lyseniuk V.P. – Honorary member in all-Ukrainian Association of physical therapists and balneotherapists, assistant professor Dibrova V.A. – Chief extraordinary specialist at MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Pathological anatomy”.
More than 1,000 students study at the faculty and in total 15,000 doctors were trained since establishment.
The graduates from medical faculty No 3 after completion of study work as:
- pediatric surgeons,

- urologists,
- orthopedists;
- traumatologists;
- cardiac surgeons,
- ophthalmologists,
- immunologists,
- phthisiologists,
- cardiologists,
- endocrinologists,
- gastroenterologists,
- infectionists,
- neonatologists, etc.
While studying at medical faculty No 3 the students show themselves as scientists, volunteers and active members, who are not indifferent to development of faculty and structure of medicine of Ukraine in general. We adopt and share knowledge with our foreign and national colleagues.

- Youth forum on issues on prevention of use of psychoactive substances and propagation of healthy lifestyle in c. Vienna;
- Conference “Medical and social sciences” on the base of Riga Paula Stradynya university;
- XIII International scientific conference of students and young scientists “Urgent issues in modern medicine” at Kharkiv V.N. Karazin national university;
- XIV annual international scientific practical conference “Uzhhorod Medical Students Conference” on Uzhhorod;
- III international medical pharmaceutical congress of students and young scientists “Priorities and perspectives for youth science” at Bukovyna state medical university.
This is only the incomplete list of conferences and congresses, in which the students of our faculty took part and were mentioned for their best reports.
The combination of the incredible passion to study and creative ideas from students of medical faculty No 3 enables them enriching the university with the new paints, performing the Scientific picnics, Charitable dances of NMU, Charitable auctions of appointments. The students are engaged into volunteering aid to children’s homes, boarding schools, organizations that take care of disabled children, children with special needs, association of hospice and palliative aid to children, whose parents are the participants in ATO zone, etc.
The way of pediatrician is the constant responsibility and learning during the whole life. The responsibility for the most important thing in our life. For the future. For children. A doctor-pediatrician, no matter how long he/she graduated from university, 1, 5, 10, 20 or 50 years ago – this “a lifelong student”. As he every day communicates with children, their parents, relatives, he/she shall know the most modern methods of diagnostics, treatment, recent novelties.
To be a doctor-pediatrician is the extraordinary responsibility. As what can be better than a smile of a healthy child? The responsibility for the future of society, for the health of the whole nation is imposed namely to doctors-pediatricians.
