THE SCIENTIST OF NMU IS WORKING ON PHD RESEARCH IN ISRAEL

25.08.2016

In June, 2016 the assistant at department of pharmaceutical, biological and toxicological chemistry at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university Kateryna Murlanova started PhD study at Ariel university (Israel).

The implementation of this project became possible thanks to Memorandum about mutual understanding between O.O. Bohomolets NMU and Ariel university, which was signed in April, 2016, as well as own successful passage through tests and interview by Kateryna Murlanova.

Ariel university is the young university that became one of the leading educational establishments in state Israel. The study and scientific research work is held at the department of molecular biology (head at laboratory of behavioral and molecular psychiatry – pro-rector on scientific work Albert Pinkhasov) and at laboratory of scientific research regional center in Samaria (head at laboratory – Doctor Shyvi Drori). PhD project by K. Murlanova is the project-development of the new antianxiety drug, thus the work is very multidisciplinary, is performed at the level of molecular biology, analytical chemistry and experimental pharmacology.

The assistant in her work uses the most modern equipment and reagents, has the access to the recent scientific sources. During three months she mastered the high performance liquid chromatography, learnt to work with cellular cultures and to perform the behavioral experiments on laboratory animals. PhD study, in addition to performance of experiments, has the educational component: compulsory attendance of seminars, journal clubs, taking the courses in separate disciplines and attendance of conferences.

“I have the incredible impressions from the scientific group, where I am working, here is no competition, and every one helps and teaches as science is always a team work. The thinking process takes much time as science is not only mastering certain methodologies but the ability to be creative and to see what others have not seen yet. The scientific weekdays pass interestingly; it is especially pleasant when you receive the positive results from work that inspire working in the world of exciting science. During free time I study the new language – Hebrew, I travel as Israel is the country of three seas, ancient cities and new culture for me”, – Kateryna Murlanova shares with her impressions.

She feels comfortable at scientific laboratories thanks to the knowledge, received during study and fulfillment of master’s work at O.O. Bohomolets NMU. “I express my sincere gratitude to my teachers, who made the invaluable contribution into my scientific development. My sincere congratulations with the start of the new academic year to the collective and students at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university!”
