GENERAL MEETING FOR ENGLISH SPEAKING STUDENTS ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF STUDENT SCIENCE
In terms of the university programme for the development of student research in English, on October 10th 2017 the general meeting was dedicated to the student science activities planning for the 2017-2018 academic year. Meeting hosts: vice-rector for research professor T.M. Cherenko, Department of Students` Research, Foreign students Dean’s Office, Kysil students` scientific society.
More than 130 English-speaking students have taken part in the meeting, including students of the faculty of foreign citizens training. At the beginning the head of the research department Ph D A.V. Dinets explained the structure of the research grant system, the priorities of the science development at Bogomolets national medical university, opportunities for students to participate in the research of student scientific committees and expressed the University support for student research projects and the possibility of continuing their postgraduate studies after graduation.
The head of Kysil students` scientific society, Sofia Nikolaienko, gave a short speech on the activities already planned for English implementation in student science at the University, including: Annual Young Medical Scientists Conference 2017 (in English) (October 27-29, 2017), the extension of the continuous scientific education for students “English medical language” (November 2017 – March 2018) and English classes for foreign students in the University Library, the Ukrainian competition for the best student scientific project (in English) based on Bogomolets national medical university with 5 key directions (December 2017 – March 2018), 2 of 7 sections of the Scientific and Practical Conference for students, interns and young scientists “Interesting clinical cases” (in English) (January 2018), Ukrainian student clinical pharmacology olimpiad (March 2018), 5 of 26 sections of the April Student Scientific Session will be held in English (April 2018), engaging English-speaking students to join the University Scientific Resource Center.
Senior Lecturer Ph.D. M. Yu. Lastovets and assistant T.V. Lakhtadir from the Dean’s office of the Faculty of foreign citizen training have also joined the meeting emphasising the importance of cooperation between the dean’s office and the research department in order to tell more students about the new opportunities offered during their education at the University. Also, the departments that could involve foreign students in the research of students’ scientific committees even this academic year have been successfully listed.
The head of the Department of student research, Professor L. L. Pinskyi, noted the importance of wider involvement of English-speaking and Russian-speaking students this academic year, in particular the Faculty of foreign citizen training. He also presented the past year logistics for student science among Ukrainian speaking students. The last year’s list of 25 scientific events organised by Kysil students` scientific society will be substantially expanded through foreign student part. The possibility of new members of the Kysil students` scientific society to participate in scientific conferences, competitions, publish in university scientific journals, undergo training at lectures and trainings, take part in student research committees would only advance the students in their education and future career.
Such goals are not possible without the support of the heads of the departments and the heads of the student’s scientific committees of the university. It is planned that at least 2-3 students (English-speaking and Russian-speaking) of the Faculty of foreign student training will be involved in the research projects of each department this academic year.
According to the results of the meeting, the Council of Kysil students` scientific society has gathered up the electronic database of students of the Faculty of foreign citizen training, which showed their willing to take part in student research and identified future candidates to become the members of the Council. The Annual Young Medical Scientists Conference 2017 and lecture-training for English speaking students will be a great start for the implementation of the discussed programme (October 2017).
