PROJECT “INTRODUCTION INTO CLINIC”
“Introduction into clinic” is the joint project by dean of medical faculty No 3 professor at department of pediatric infectious diseases Oksana Vyhovska and head at department of pathological anatomy No 2 professor Serhii Hychka, which was launched a month ago and is continued for students of the 3rd course at O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University. This project includes two interactive lectures in format of 45 minutes with participation of two lecturers and application of clinical cases for solidification of material.
Traditionally, the first interactive lecture with duration of 45 minutes was devoted namely to the pathological anatomy – demonstration of micro and macro specimen, various classifications of nosologic forms and purely study of pathological processes that caused to some or other “pathologicoanatomic diagnosis”, demonstration of pathomorphological changes at pathological condition and their comparison with norm.
The next interactive lecture with duration of 30-45 minutes was devoted to clinical cases. The students can learn the real case records, real patients, results from analyses, illustrated photos with clinical manifestations of diseases, results from various diagnostic researches. If the outcome of diseases finished lethally, the clinical cases contain the illustrations of macro and micro specimen and the analysis of reasons for such outcome is compulsorily made, whether no mistakes had been committed at different stages of diagnostics and treatment of patients. Of course, after presentation of each clinical case the third year students choose the previous diagnosis on their own using the special program for voting. Or they give the answers to other questions during the lecture, there are two-tree of them to each clinical case. The future doctors for a short period of time consider approximately 5 clinical cases, which fix the competences, acquired at previous part of lecture.
The main purpose of launched project is to teach students to think clinically, to analyze the material, based on substantial theoretical knowledge. The use of system for interactive voting allows involving all students at once into discussion. Such lectures with participation of two lecturers with the use of clinical cases and interactive voting enjoy the great interest and popularity at students of the 3rd course. The project is implemented at students of the 3rd course in medical faculty No 3 during lectures in discipline “pathomorphology”. The next step is the presentation of material with participation of two lecturers and application of clinical cases in disciplines “pathophysiology” and “pharmacology” for students of the 3rd course.
