PROBATION OF ASSISTANT PROFESSOR FROM NMU AT UNIVERSITY CLINIC UKSH C. LUBECK (GERMANY)

15.02.2018

In 2017 assistant professor at department of general surgery No 1 Serhii Zemskov on contest basis received the scientific scholarship from German service of academic exchange (DAAD). Two months scholarship was granted to implement the joint scientific project between University Clinic UKSH at University of c. Lubeck (Germany) and department of general surgery No 1 at O.O. Bogomolets NMU, grant number 57314020. Referat: ST22. Personal ID: 91619845. The project managers were professor Tobias Kek and professor Oleksii Dronov, accordingly. The idea of this project was the continuation of fruitful cooperation, started last year between Ukrainian and German university clinics. The first stage in this cooperation was the successful performance of 2 days master class “Modern approaches in oncosurgery of pancreas”, which was held at clinical base at department of general surgery No 1 with participation of German and Ukrainian team of surgeons on 5-6, October, 2017. The open and laparoscopy resections of the pancreas were broadcasted online that was accompanied by interactive dialogue with operating surgeons.

The scientific project was devoted to study of life quality at patients after pancreaticoduodenal resection (PDR) and implemented on the base of University clinic UKSH in Lubeck, Germany, since 23.10.2017 until 22.12.2017. It was the observation research, which involved 320 patients after PDR from multicenter randomized research “RECOPANC”. The life quality was studied using the polling of patients and the calculation of psychometric scales “EORTC-QLQ-C30/PAN26” before operation, at discharge in 6 and 12 months after operation. The influence of different clinical morphological factors on changes in life quality was checked through performance of univariant analysis. The final pancreatectomy (extirpation of pancreas residual limb) and pancreatic fistula were the most frequent negative factors of influence. The results from this research were submitted for publication in one of the oldest and mostly cited world editions “Annals of Surgery”, manuscript “Perioperative and Long Term Quality of Life in Pancreatoduodenectomy – Analysis from a German Prospective Multicenter Trial (RECOPANC)“; manuscript number ANNSURG-D-18-00282.

While staying in Lubeck under supervision of professor Kek the assistant professor Serhii Zemskov also took part in open laparoscopy and robotized resections of pancreas, combined vascular operations, application of intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC), explantation and transplantation of inner organs.

“I believe that this visit to Lubeck university is not only the largest step in my personal and professional development but in consolidation of contacts between our universities on the way of further academic exchange of students, interns and specialists. I also think that such initiatives as DAAD, Erasmus+ etc. are now very important for our medicine and education. It is quite natural that the revival of these spheres is not purely a financial problem but the problem for receipt and implementation of new knowledge and approaches. And namely such programs of academic exchange and probation in countries with highly developed health care systems may help us to overcome with this informational technological deficit that has formed during recent 30 years”, – mentioned assistant professor Serhii Zemskov about probation. He also thanked the administration of both universities for assistance to this project.
