The main part of the trip was devoted to urgent issues of modern diagnostics and treatment of infectious diseases, pulmonary tuberculosis, extrapulmonary tuberculosis, HIV-infection at patients in different age groups. The possibility to observe the adult patients was provided by hospital “Miriam”, children – hospital “Rhode Island”. The examination rooms of clinics in both hospitals are equipped with modern apparatuses and necessary materials to take the tests. The wards in hospital are equipped with all necessary things both for implementation of treatment process and comfort of patients. The various trainings, conferences, lectures were held every day at conference halls and lecture halls of both hospitals. Among them: “Abscesses, caused by non-tuberculosis mycobacteria”, “Management of pregnant women with HIV-infection”, “Allergic reactions at intake of antibiotics of penicillin series at children”, “Application of aminoglycosides in modern medicine, adverse actions”, “Professional burnout”, etc. Every Monday – report – analysis about prescribed treatment, performed manipulations and consultations of hospital patients in infectious division. Every Tuesday the reception of patients was held at tuberculosis clinic. The reports on occasion of interesting clinical cases at infectious patients were presented every Thursday.

The meeting of doctors and discussion of tactics to manage the infectious patients of childish age was held at hospital “Rhode Island” every morning on Wednesday and Friday. During the third week of probation the trainees went to Boston University, where resident at department of phthisiology and pulmonology Mamotenko Andrii presented the report about diagnostics, prevention and treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis in Ukraine, with further discussion of issues that interested foreign colleagues.

It was interesting that the doctors- infectiologists, phthisiologists and pediatricians are not obliged to wear the uniform as near the wards with patients with infection that is transferred by droplet spread or contact way there are the boxes with one-use gowns, masks, gloves, apparatuses with disinfection means. The results from probation: exchange with experience, professional and scientific growth, acquisition of invaluable experience in work of infectious disease, improvement of professional competencies, acquaintance with structure for work of health care system in the USA. We hope that in the future there are a great number of interesting and useful probations, which will help to make our medicine more qualitative and modern.
