IMPROVING THE WORK AR DIVISIONS OF NMU: DEPARTMENT OF ORTHOPEDIC DENTISTRY

The modern orthopedic dentistry today is the sphere that is developed with extremely rapid rates, widely uses the newest technologies and approaches, as it is the orthopedists-dentists, who provide with final dental rehabilitation of patient after therapeutic and surgical treatment. Thus, training students in this sphere is an important and rather complex task.

The department of orthopedic dentistry, located on the base of Dental Medical Center at O.O. Bogomolets NMU is one of the largest departments of dental faculty at O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University. According to Strategy for development of O.O. Bogomolets NMU for 2015-2020 (set forth in Order of Rector No 585, dd. 02.10.2017 “About approval of Plan for top-priority events to improve the work of divisions at O.O. Bogomolets NMU for 2017/2018 academic year), the bank of video presentations of practical skills for students is established and now updated at department of orthopedic dentistry, the sets of didactic materials for each class and final modular control with standards of answers are designed and created. Each such set includes the situational clinical tasks with results from clinical laboratory methods of researches, tests from bank “KROK-2” and “STEP-2” with comments. The students at theoretical part of classes can assess the need in orthopedic treatment, relying on results from clinical, laboratory, functional researches, as well as plan such treatment. The future dentists in practical part work with real patients, performing different stages of orthopedic treatment.

At present moment the department started the presentation of lecture material in the newest format. The students positively perceive the new forms of educational process. The practice demonstrates that such form of study really improves the interest to discipline and motivates to improve the level of knowledge.
