THE VOLUNTEERS’ CENTER IS ESTABLISHED AT UNIVERSITY
The volunteers’ center of NMU operates since 1, September, 2016 at O.O. Bohomolets National medical university. The initiators for establishment of the center became the students of medical faculty No 3 together with the dean of faculty Oksana Vygovska.
“Why are namely the pediatric students the initiators of this project?” The future doctors-pediatricians shall have the certain features of character – sympathy, responsibility, honesty, democracy, initiativity, ability to work with healthy and especially sick children, ability to work in the team. The children’s diseases are not always somatic, infectious. Often they are hereditary diseases, oncologic pathology, autism, ICP, Down’s disease and many others.
Not all children have their homes. They are in orphans’ houses, boarding schools, rehabilitation centers.
We, the pediatricians, love all children! We have this in the subconsciousness but we also want to improve and to decorate their weekdays and to transform each their day into the holiday. Among students of University there are many people, who as volunteers fought and continue fighting for independence of the country under conditions of ATO. The student of medical faculty No 3 Volodymyr Yurychko perished defending the sovereignty and integrity of our Motherland; he was awarded with the honorary title – Hero of Ukraine. The students of the faculty during recent years are actively engaged into volunteering activity. They see the need in establishment of community of adherents, involvement of all students of university into such activity regardless of their future specialty.
The first project, on which the volunteers’ center of O.O. Bohomolets NMU has been working, is the cooperation with Rehabilitation center “Motherland” for children with autism and their parents.
Since September, 2016 the students of NMU at the initiative of volunteers’ center took part in flashmob “Such as me, together to school” for children with autism.
The children with autism under support of psychologists and parents find the variants for development, communication in the society, study and it is not sufficient to become a part of society. The surrounding people shall also assist to development of special children.
The volunteers of project – students of NMU with their enthusiasm, love tried to establish the comfortable conditions for games and entertainments in order the children would understand that they are as the others. The children with autism play football, paint, sing, play the drums and inspire the surrounding people with their power of will.
The student of the 1st course in medical faculty No 3 Polina Bogdan shares with her impressions, the girl took part in flashmob “Such as me, together to school”. “I was inspired very much by enthusiasm of these children and the readiness to fight for their place in society. The most important thing is that we felt no barriers in communication with them. It is easy to find the common language with these special children as with usual children. It was merrily, interesting for all present people during the whole time that we spent together”.
