DRILLING THE SKILLS ON PHANTOMS IS THE GUARANTY FOR HIGH COMPETENCE OF DENTIST

Dentistry is the sphere of medicine that requires the perfect possession of practical skills. In order to form the occupational competences in dentistry a student shall constantly sharpen his/her skills, train the manual skills and abilities. Let’s remind that at the initiative of rector professor Kateryna Amosova they opened 2 educational training phantom classes, which are equipped with the new modern phantoms.

According to the words by rector the students may drill their practical competencies to automatic performance namely on phantoms and train to pass through exams and OSCE. “We do not only change the content of methodological guidelines at departments and design the algorithm of actions in order all students could correctly make the practical task from the first step and to the last one and could drill everything on phantoms”, – mentioned professor Kateryna Amosova. The unique peculiarity for interdepartmental simulation center at faculty is the available “children’s” phantoms with jaws that imitate the period of changeable bite of child. It is more difficult to work on them than on “adult” ones, as well as it is more difficult to work with children in clinical dentistry in comparison with reception of adult patients. However, we may hope that the practical training, received by students at pre-clinical stage of study, will allow them to become the experienced specialists in the future. In the classroom there are 24 installations with adult simulation phantoms (here 2 groups of students can work at the same time) and 12 installations in children’s classroom (for 1 group of students). The students prosect the teeth, fill, polish and thanks to spare jaws and teeth, already unsuitable for work may easily be unscrewed and replaced for the new ones from the same group.
