XVI SIDELNYKOV’S READINGS

Sidelnykov’s readings are traditionally held in autumn. This year all-Ukrainian scientific practical conference “Urgent issues of pediatrics” – XVI Sidelnykov’s reading was held on 23-25, September, 2014 in c. Zaporozhe. They were devoted to the memory of famous figure in national pediatrics, corresponding member in AMS of USSR, RAMS, NAS of Ukraine, AMS of Ukraine, Honorary scientist of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, professor Viktor Mykhaylovych Sidelnykov.
The readings traditionally gathered over 800 children’s and family doctors and over 40 heads of pediatric department and professors from 11 higher medical schools, 3 academies of postgraduate education and SE “Institute of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology at NAMS of Ukraine and SRJV “OKHMATDYT” from all regions of the country.
The scientific pediatric forum was special as it took place at the background of violent events in our country, related to the Revolution of dignity and performance of ATO in Donbass. And in this situation everyone, in particular, medical men shall perform their professional duty at the high level, it was emphasized in greetings of the conference from MHC of Ukraine. Health Care Department in Zaporozhe regional state administration and Association of pediatricians of Ukraine. the performance of such large-scale scientific practical conference even under such difficult conditions testified to the fact that national pediatrics finds the adequate responses to the challenges of the time.
So, these reading traditionally deal with the most important modern issues in development of pediatrics and family medicine in terms of the newest achievements of medical science, taking into consideration the requirements of evidence-based medicine, the best national and foreign experience. They discussed the top-priority tasks of pediatric science and practice, issues of care for healthy child and its upbringing, problems of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of wide spread diseases in childhood. Thanks to efficient use of resources in the sphere, cooperation of scientists and children’s doctors, the infant mortality figure was reduced in the first half year in current year up to 7.5 per 1,000 children, born alive (V.V. Lazoryshynets, A.V. Tereshchenko, 2014).
Within the report by acting director in Department of human resources, education and science at MHC of Ukraine, corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, professor O.P. Volosovets, the participants in the conference actively discussed the modern Concept about construction of the new health care system, role of childhood medicine, development of medical self-management, medical psychological aspects in work of children’s and family doctors in special period.

Volosovets, Chief extraordinary specialist of MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Children’s pulmonology” professor V.F. Lapshyn, Chief extraordinary specialist of MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Children’s gastroenterology” professor O.G. Shadrin, Chief extraordinary specialist of MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Teenage therapy” professor L.K. Parkhomenko, Chief extraordinary specialist of MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Children’s allergology” Doctor of Medicine T.R. Umanets, Chief pediatrician in c. Kyiv, professor L.V. Kvashnina, Chief extraordinary specialist of MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Otolaryngology” professor V.I. Popovych took an active part in the work of Reading. Their reports reflected the ways in development of national pediatric science and practice; it will become the base for update of existing standards both to render first aid and tertiary care to children. The important issue also was the issue about new infectious threats, arisen to the humankind, and the problem to overcome with resistance to antibiotics, use of antibacterial agents “prodrugs”, development of new direction in use of “alive” multi probiotics, for correction of homeostasis of the whole organism, and modern high technology herbal medicinal products for treatment and improvement of non-specific resistance of children to infectious agents.
In total over 110 speeches on urgent issues in childhood medicine and medical education were heard during the forum at 4 plenary, 2 sectional meetings and methodological session. The special attention was paid to diseases of the respiratory system at children (academician in NAMS of Ukraine, professor V.G. Maydannyk, professor V.F. Lapshyn, professor G.V. Beketova, professor S.P. Kryvopustov, professor O.M. Okhotnikova, professor Yu.V. Marushko, professor L.V. Kvashnina, professor T.O. Kriuchko, professor L.M. Boyarska, professor L.S. Ovcharenko, professor V.I. Popovych, professor M.V. Khaytovych, etc.), pathology of digestive system at children (professor O.G. Shadrin, professor G.O. Ivanko, professor L.K. Parkhomenko, professor O.Yu. Bilousova, etc.), urgent problems in neonatology (corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, professor M.P. Aryayev, professor T.M. Klymenko, etc.).
The separate breakout session “Urgent issues in children’s cardiorheumatology” was held under the chairmanship of Chief extraordinary specialist of MHC of Ukraine in specialty “Children’s cardiorheumatology”, corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, professor O.P. Volosovets, where the chief extraordinary children’s cardiological rheumatologists from health care departments (administration) reported. The attention was paid to necessity in improvement of prevention and treatment and establishment of regional registers of patients with inborn and acquired cardiovascular pathology, rheumatoid arthritis. The growth in the number of children with inborn heart defects (up to 11 thousands newly diagnosed children per year) and over 400 lethal cases as a result of these pathological conditions, in particular from combined heart defects with ventricle hypoplasy, require the efficient Intersectoral cooperation of children’s doctors, cardiological rheumatologists and cardiac surgeons.
The breakout session “Implementation of results from scientific researches into practice of family medicine and pediatrics” thoroughly analyzed the abstracts of dissertation researches. The poster reports of scientists, which brilliantly represented Kharkiv and Zaporozhe pediatric school, were discussed.
The scientific methodological session on urgent issues in teaching the pediatrics at higher medical schools of MHC of Ukraine was held on 25, September, 2014. In particular, during the session they discussed the modern standards in training of doctors, issues about implementation of medical residency in postgraduate medical education, reports by heads at supportive departments of pediatrics. Sidelnykov’s readings have the great educational and educative function for modern generation of children’s and family doctors. They are directed to solve the urgent problems in childhood medicine of our country with honoring the memory of founders of national pediatrics.
