MEETING OF STUDENTS’ SCIENTIFIC CLUBS AT DEPARTMENT OF PEDIATRIC INFECTIOUS DISEASES
The modern development of medicine requires the deep theoretical knowledge and possession of certain practical skills from future doctors. The lectures and seminars are the basic level but the additional independent work is necessary to achieve the professional level. The students’ scientific clubs are almost the ideal form for educational process as here the high motivation, problem-oriented approach and possibility for creative solution of clinical situations are combined. The department of pediatric infectious diseases pays the special attention to the students’ scientific club. Many students during study have the desire to deepen their knowledge, to try themselves in the role of doctor or scientist.
The clinical thinking, perhaps, is the most important from practical skills, which a doctor shall possess. The meetings of club make the accent on consideration of concrete clinical situations. The teacher namely by this way may show the way for diagnostic search, the mechanism for choice of optimal tactics, and the collective discussion allows wider and impartially disclosing the problem. The important component in success of the club is the interest of teachers in transfer of experience to the future doctors. All employees at department of pediatric infectious diseases take part in work of students’ club – it includes the joint rounds with examination of patients and consideration of interesting clinical cases, preparation of scientific works for publications and participation in conferences. The department approaches responsibly to each meeting of the club and tries to saturate it with interesting content.
Already four meetings of students’ club at department of pediatric infectious diseases took place since January, 2018. On 17, January the regular meeting of scientific club at department was held under supervision of Candidate of Medicine, assistant professor Korbut Oksana Viktorivna. During the round of patients the club members got acquainted with the interesting clinical cases of the measles, chicken pox and other urgent infectious pathologies in present season. The club member together Oksana Viktorivna and Candidate of Medicine, assistant Voronov Oleksandr Oleksandrovych at reanimation department observed for performance of thoracocentesis at child with chicken pox, complicated with pleuritis. About 700 ml of septic content were removed during procedure. The case of cryptococcal sepsis at 14 years old boy, which further finished lethally, was very impressive for club members. The meeting of the club at department under supervision of Doctor of Medicine, professor Vyhovska Oksana Valentynivna took place on 26, January, 2018 on base of Kyiv City Children’s Clinical Infectious Hospital. During the round of patients they considered the interesting clinical case of rotaviral infection, mononucleosis, chicken pox, whooping cough and scarlet fever. Oksana Valentynivna at the meeting also presented the informative report on topic “Clinical cases of herpesviral infections at children”, during which the club members could revise and study the typical analyses on various cases for herpesviral infections in details, to discuss their peculiarities of clinic and differentiated diagnostics. Besides, the students considered the case records and were determined with the topics for reports and writing the scientific papers for participation in the 2nd all-Ukrainian scientific practical conference “Interesting cases in clinical medicine”. The club members considered the peculiarities for flu in season of 2017/2018 at children, accentuated the attention to its complications on 20, February, 2018 during the meeting of scientific club at department under supervision of Candidate of Medicine, assistant professor Korbut Oksana Viktorivna. The student of medical faculty No 3 Faryna Liubov presented the report on topic “Molaret meningitis at children”. Traditionally – the analysis of patients at department of neuroinfection, isolation ward and department of reanimation and intensive care with flu, chicken pox, viral encephalitis. The regular meeting of scientific club at department of pediatric infectious diseases took place on 21, March, 2018 under supervision of Candidate of Medicine, assistant professor Korbut Oksana Viktorivna and Doctor of Medicine, professor Vyhovska Oksana Valentynivna. 11 representatives from the 4th-6th courses in medical faculties No 3 and 2 students in medical faculty No 2 were present at the meeting. At the meeting Candidate of Medicine, assistant Voronov Oleksandr Oleksandrovych acquainted the students with clinical cases of aspergillar sepsis and intrauterine cytomegaloviral infection, complicated with inner hydrocephaly. The club members also got acquainted with pathogenesis, peculiarities of clinic, diagnostics and complications of Kawasaki disease and clinical cases of this disease at child that was on treatment on base for clinic at department of pediatric infectious diseases in infectious division at CCH No 2.
During the round at division the students examined the patients: the girl of 7 years old with fungal injury of the skin and lungs (Aspergillius, Candida); the boy of 27 days old, with intrauterine cytomegaloviral infection and the boy of 6 years old with diagnosis of encephalomyelopolyradiculoneuropathy, cerebellar ataxia. Besides, during the meeting they discussed the issue about participation of club members in the nearest conferences, the topics of reports and structure for their execution.
