THE 1ST STAGE IN PROJECT ON IMPROVEMENT OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE AMONG TEACHERS FINISHED

40 teachers, who teach in English at the first course, upon the recommendation of heads at departments, passed through Aptis testing from British Council, which checks the level of knowledge of English from A1 to C due to scale of General European recommendations in linguistic education and allows assessing the possession of all four linguistic competencies: oral speaking, listening, reading and writing. A candidate that passes through Aptis receives the mark due to the scale from 0 to 50 for sections in grammar and vocabulary, as well as the mark due to the scale from 0 to 50 and level due to General European recommendations from A1 to C for each competency, being checked. In general it establishes the complete picture about degree in knowledge of language.

According to results from testing 6 (15%) teachers received level C, 15 (39%) – B2, 13 (33%) – B1, 3 (7%) – A2, 2 (5%) – A1. The highest results were found in listening, where 36% of teachers showed level C and 28% – B2, as well as reading, where 31% received level C and 25.5% – level B2. The results in oral speaking, where most teachers showed level B1, were a bit worse.

All teachers (39), who took part in testing, received the individual certificates. Let’s mention that according to the Order from Ministry of education and science of Ukraine No 13, dd. 14.01.2016 “On approval of Procedure to award the academic titles to scientific and scientific pedagogical workers” Aptis test was included into the list of recommended international tests in knowledge of English as foreign language.

The next stage will become the formation of groups of teachers according to results from testing, who will be able to pass through study on improvement of English at courses, which are held by British Council.
