The club was officially created in 1968. The first head of the club was Associate Professor, Candidate of Medical Sciences Fedorov Yevhenii Anatoliiovych.

The purpose of the club is to:

 Encourage students to study the discipline in depth;

 formation of scientific thinking, ability to perform research work;

 training to design and present the research findings;

 formation of students’ desire for continuous improvement of their own theoretical training and professional skills;

 learning to work independently with sources of scientific and medical literature.

The tasks and main directions of the club are:

 In-depth study of the history of surgical schools, including the Department of General Surgery No. 2, Principles of Medical Ethics and Deontology;

 study the principles of working with search engines of world medical libraries and databases;

 participation of students in clinical activities of the department in the form of urgent duty, participation in surgeries, dressings, clinical rounds, etc., which gives students the opportunity to acquire practical skills that will be required in further practical activities.

 To get acquainted with modern tendencies of development of surgery and achievements of the Department of General Surgery №2 in this sphere of practical activity.

 In-depth study, scientific search and participation in research work in separate fields of surgery, taking into account the interests of club members and scientific directions of the department, namely:

•  modern surgical methods of treatment of obesity;
•  echo-controlled minimally invasive interventions;
•  modern diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic technologies;
•  modern methods of treatment of burn disease;
•  new technologies in laparoscopic surgery;
•  current possibilities of endocrine surgery;
•  current views on the treatment of varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency and lower extremity trophic ulcers;
•  features of treatment of purulent-inflammatory processes.

 Generalization of the results of the research work and creation of messages and multimedia presentations.

 Continuous participation in conferences for students and young scientists.

Number of club members as of 01/20/2020 – 16 students (recruitment continues). The number of meetings of the club during the academic year is 19 (the topics of meetings for the spring semester of the 2019/20 academic year are reflected in the thematic plan). In addition to discussing with the teacher the scientific and practical aspects of the planned topic, the meeting includes demonstration of patients with the analysis of medical histories, reports of students on the results of the work carried out, discussion of further scientific search, participation in practical activities of the clinic, etc.).

The work of the club during the academic year is clearly planned in accordance with the wishes of students. The methods of stimulating the scientific and practical activity of the students are enrollment of the work in the club as an independent and individual work during the study of the discipline with the accrual of the appropriate number of points, presentation of the results of the work carried out at scientific conferences, congresses, periodicals, etc., obtaining recommendations for further scientific – practical work on a specialty.

Clinical bases on which the group operates are the departments of Kyiv City Clinical Hospital №3, namely: surgical, purulent surgery, bone-purulent surgery, traumatology, arm surgery, endocrine surgery, septic department.

Student Scientific Club of the Department of General Surgery No. 2 conducts cooperation with the student scientific clubs of the Departments of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Obstetrics and Gynecology No. 2, and Propedeutics of Internal Medicine No. 2 of Bogomolets National Medical University. The members of the club take part in the work of Student Scientific Society named after  O.A. Kysel.

The meetings of the club are held in the audience of the surgical department of the Kyiv City Clinical Hospital №3 (4th floor of the surgical building), meetings stars at 17:30.
