Tsymbaliuk Vitaliy Ivanovych, MD., D.Sc., Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (2010), corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine at the Department of Biochemistry, Physiology and Molecular Biology (2018); Doctor of Medical Sciences (1985), Professor (1989), Honored Worker of Science and Technology (1997), laureate of two State Prizes of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (1996, 2002), laureate of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (2003), laureate of the them. A.Vesalia of the American Association of Neurosurgeons (2010), winner of the OO Prize Prayers of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2013), winner of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Award (2016). He graduated with honors from the Ternopil State Medical Institute (1970), a neurosurgeon of the highest category, the head of the neurosurgery department of the Bogomolets National Medical University (since 1993), Head of the Department of Rehabilitation and Functional Neurosurgery (since 1987). Chairman of the Expert Council of the Highest Certification Commission of Ukraine on Clinical Medicine (Surgical Diseases) (1996-2000), Director of the Coordination Center for Transplantation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (2002-2004), Member of the Committee on State Prizes of Ukraine (2002-2006), Chairman of the Medical Section of the Committee on State awards of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (2016). Member of the Presidium of the National Medical Academy of Ukraine (since 2010), President of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (since 2016), Deputy Director of the Institute of Neurosurgery (1990-2013), Honorary Professor of the Poltava Dental Academy and Gorbachevsky Ternopil State Medical University; the Chairman of the Specialized Academic Council of the State Institution “INH NAMN” (since 2013).

Well-known in Ukraine and abroad neurosurgeon, scientist, teacher. Organizer and leader of a new field in neurosurgery – restorative neurosurgery. Developed and implemented in clinical practice new neurosurgical operations aimed at restoring impaired nervous system functions, which are protected by numerous copyright certificates for inventions and patents. He started a new direction – neurotransplantation. In experimental models of traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and peripheral nerves, cerebral ischemia, lesions of visual and auditory analyzers, neurodegenerative diseases of the CNS studied the effect of transplantation of embryonic nerve tissue on the processes of regeneration of the nervous system. Actively researches mechanisms of influence of stem cells of different origin on the course of neurological and neurosurgical pathology in experiment and clinic, develops neuroengineering methods of rehabilitation treatment. Developed and implemented in the clinic domestic electrical stimulation systems for the treatment of pain syndromes, spasticity, epilepsy. He started to use botulinum toxin A (Dysport) based drugs in Ukraine in conjunction with the surgical treatment of focal dystonias: spastic curvature, blepharospasm, hemilicus spasm, etc. Under his leadership, methods of surgical treatment of traumatic injuries of the shoulder plexus, inflammatory, open and iatrogenic injuries of peripheral nerves, pain syndromes with the use of microsurgical and mini-invasive technologies were developed. Has developed differentiated neurosurgical treatment of complex forms of extrapyramidal hyperkinesis and muscle tone disorders. Performed a series of works on the history of neurosurgery. Conducts extensive work on undergraduate training for future physicians. One of the most active initiators and organizers of the All-Ukrainian action “Gamma-knife-Ukraine”, which ended with the creation of a modern radiosurgical department and was awarded the Pride of the country. Since 2014 – Chief of the Operational Staff at the NAMS of Ukraine on assistance to the victims on the Maidan and in the eastern regions of Ukraine.

Tsymbaliuk V.I. is co-founder of the Ukrainian Association of Neurosurgeons (1993-2013 – Vice-President); the Ukrainian Antiepileptic League (1993–2013 – Vice President), Ukrainian Neurosurgical Journal (1993–2016 – Deputy Editor-in-Chief); at present he is a member of Ukrainian, European and World Association of Neurosurgeons, European Association of Neurosciences, Ukrainian Association of Transplantologists; Honorary Member of the Association of Neurosurgeons of Russia (2006); editor-in-chief of the Journal of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, journals Science and Practice, Cell and Organ Transplantology, Bulletin of Epileptology; member of the editorial board of several professional periodicals; Chairman of the Medicine section of the State Prizes Committee of Ukraine (since 2016), member of the State Prizes Committee of Ukraine (2016).

Tsymbaliuk V.I. is a Cavalier of the Order of Merit (I-III centuries), laureate of Honorary diploma of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (2010), State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology (1997, 2002), Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (2003), honor of O.O. Bogomolets NAS of Ukraine (2013), honors in honor of Yaroslav the Wise of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the award of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine (2016). He was awarded some departmental insignia of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, including – “With the assistance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine” (2016), “Volunteer of Ukraine. BSP “Donbas” (2015), the Order of Courage and Mercy (2016), the honors of a number of foreign NGOs – the A. Under the leadership of V.I. Tsimbalyuk defended 14 doctoral, 58 Ph.D. dissertations, co-authored more than 1000 scientific works, including 62 books (monographs, textbooks, manuals), obtained 128 copyright certificates for inventions, patents for utility models.

Associate Professors of the Department of Neurosurgery:

 

Volodymyr V. Medvediev (born July 30, 1979, Zhydachiv, Lviv Oblast) — doctor of medical sciences, professor, professor of the Department of Neurosurgery Bogomolets National Medical University, laureate of the Borys Paton National Prize (2021) and the prize named after O.O. Bogomolets in the field of physiology and pathophysiology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2012).

He graduated from Bogomolets National Medical University with honors (2002) and the Lviv University of Trade and Economics (2004), clinical post-graduate fellowship and full-time post-graduate studies at the Department of Neurosurgery, defended a candidate’s (2008) and doctoral (2017) thesis in the specialty “neurosurgery”. Senior laboratory assistant (2006-2008), assistant (2008-2013), associate professor (2013-2020), professor (since 2020) of the Department of Neurosurgery Bogomolets National Medical University, responsible for scientific and publishing work at the department. He worked part-time as a researcher at the Coordinating Center for Transplantation of Organs, Tissues and Cells of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine (2004) and the Laboratory of Experimental Neurosurgery State Institution “Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute” (2007‒2009).

Since 2013 he works as a senior researcher at the Department of Sensory Signaling of the Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology (part-time). He is a member of the Academic Council of the Medical Faculty No. 1 and a member of the Commission on Bioethical Expertise and Research Ethics Bogomolets National Medical University. Also he is a member of the editorial board of the Ukrainian Neurosurgical Journal. Neurosurgeon of the highest category. Author and co-author of 219 scientific printed works, including 11 monographs, 6 textbooks and manuals, 23 Ukrainian patents for utility models.

The Hirsch index is 3 (Scopus), 2 (WoS) and 8 (Google Scholar). The field of scientific and public interests includes problems of experimental and restorative neurosurgery, physiology and pathophysiology of the nervous system, as well as bioethics, history of science and popularization of science.

Luzan Boris Mukolayovych– MD, Ph.D.(2001), Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Bogomolets National Medical University (since 2005). He graduated with honors from the Ukrainian State Medical University (1994). Since 1994, a researcher at the SI “Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute”, received a Master’s Degree, in medicine with honors (1997). He completed his postgraduate studies at the Bogomolets National Medical University (1997-2000). In 2001 he defended his Ph.D. thesis: “The influence of allogeneic transplantation of embryonic nerve tissue on the regeneration of damaged peripheral nerves”. From 2000 he worked as an Assistant, and since 2004 – Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets National Medical University. Responsible for working with interns-neurosurgeons and interns of the another specialties. Neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category.

Main directions of scientific activity: surgical treatment of traumatic lesions and other pathology of peripheral nervous system, neurotransplantology. Author of 60 scientific papers, 10 inventions.

Maruschchenko Myroslava Olegivna – MD, Ph.D. (2005), Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets National Medical University (since 2013). Graduated with honors from Bogomolets NMU (1997). Senior Laboratory Assistant of the Department of Neurosurgery (1997–2001), Assistant Professor (2001–2013). In 2005 she defended his Ph.D. thesis: “Morpho-functional relationships in cryodestruction of brain structures”. Marushchenko M.O. is responsible for educational and methodical work, English-language teaching at the Department of Neurosurgery and work with foreign students. Neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category.

Member of the Academic Council of the 1st Medical Faculty and Academic Council of the Bogomolets National Medical University, Cycle Methodological Commission on Surgical Diseases of Bogomolets NMU. Member of the Ukrainian Association of Neurosurgeons and the Ukrainian Association Against Stroke.

The main directions of practical and scientific activity: experimental neurosurgery, cryomethod in neurosurgery, history of neurosurgery, pain syndromes, congenital pathology of the CNS and others.

Author of more than 60 printed works. She has participated in many national and international conferences, including the 13th Course EFNS Academy – Spring School for Young Neurologists (Czech Republic, 2012), Salzburg Medical Seminars on Neurosurgery (Austria, 2012, 2013). She has completed a 2-month internship in accordance with the EFNS-EAN Department to Department Program at the Neurology and Neurosurgery Departments of Christian-Doppler-Klinik Paracelsus Medizinische Privatuniversität (Austria, 2014). She gave a lecture course on topical issues of neurosurgery at the Prague Workshop “Problémy současné společnosti – civilizační nemoci, fyzická aktivita, výživa” (Czech Republic, 2013).

Troyan Oleksandr Ivanovych – MD, Ph.D. (2005), Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets National Medical University (since 2013). Neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category. Graduated from Vinnitsa Medical Institute named after. M. Pirogov (1993). Worked in the neurosurgical department of Vinnitsa Regional Clinical Hospital (1993). Internship (1993–1996), clinical residency (1996–1998) at the Kyiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education named after P.L.Shupuk. Postgraduate student of the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets National Medical University (1998-2000). He defended his dissertation on the theme: “Influence of fetal nerve tissue transplantation on the dynamics of lipid peroxidation, antioxidant status, oxidative phosphorylation in experimental severe traumatic brain injury” (2001). Assistant Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery (1999-2013), Associate Professor (since 2013). Troyan O.I. is responsible for the medical work at the Department of Neurosurgery. Honorary Head of the Student Scientific Club on Neurosurgery on the Deparment of Neurosurgery.

The main directions of practical and scientific activity: pathology of the spine and spinal cord, neurotraumatology, neuro-oncology, neurotransplantology, restorative neurosurgery, pain surgery. Author of over 100 scientific papers, co-author of 6 guidelines and textbooks on neurosurgery for students of medical universities.

Dmyterko Igor Petrovych – MD, Ph.D. (2003), Neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category (since 2010), Assistant Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery (1999-2015), Associate Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery (since 2015), deputy dean of Bogomolets NMU for Work with Foreign Students (2005-2009). He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Chernivtsi State Medical Institute (1992). Internship at the Department of Neurosurgery of Arkhangelsk Medical Institute (1994) (Russia). Neurosurgeon at the First City Hospital of Vorkuta (Russia; 1994–1995), Neurosurgeon at the Hospital N5 in Sevastopol (1995–1997). Clinical residenship at the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets NMU (1997-1999). Postgraduate studies (1999–2002) at the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets National Medical University. MAIN WORKS: Etiology, pathogenesis and neurosurgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (2001); Method for puncture percutaneous access to the trigeminal cavity through an oval opening (2002); Differentiated approach to surgical treatment of relapses of severe trigeminal neuralgia (2003); Cryosurgery for the treatment of severe trigeminal neuralgia (2015).

Molotkovets Vitaliy Yuriyovych Assistant Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets National Medical University (since 2012). Graduated from Bogomolets National Medical Universit in 2007. Internship and clinical residency at the Department of Neurosurgery of National Medical Academy of Poatgraduate Education named after P.L.Shupuk (2007-2012). Since 2012 he has been working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets NMU, since 2014 – as a neurosurgeon (as additional job) of the State Institution «Romodanov Neurosurgery Institute NAMSc of Ukraine». Graduate student of the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets NMU. Completes the thesis: “An electrical weld of the epineuria to restore the structural integrity of the nerve trunk (experimental study)”.

Cheshuk Yevhen Valeriyovych – Assistant Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery of Bogomolets National Medical University (since 2019). He graduated from the Bogomolets National Medical University in 2014. Senior Laboratory Assistant of the Department of Neurosurgery (from 2018). In 2017 – graduated from the Internship on General Surgery at Bogomolets National Medical University, specialization on Oncology at the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (2018), specialization on Neurosurgery at the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education named after PL. Shupuk (2019).

Main directions of practical activity: spinal neurosurgery, pain syndromes, recovery treatment in spinal cord injury.
