Responsible assistant of the department  – Galan Iryna Olegivna.

Public and educational work is actively carried out by the staff of the Department of Phthisiology and Pulmonology. The educational process is aimed at the development of students abilities, the formation of positive motivation for future doctors to get professional knowledge, skills, to promote the education of a harmoniously developed, highly educated, socially active and national-conscious person, capable of self-development and self-improvement, civic responsibility, high spiritual qualities and patriotic feelings.

Educational work at the department combined with educational and methodological, scientific research and aimed at forming the personality of a professional doctor, moral and spiritual qualities of a medical student, active civic position. Doctors at all times were considered the elite of the nation. Acquaintance with the history and achievements of the department, attracting students to scientific work, individual communication – these are “bricks” for “building up” the personality of a modern doctor and citizen of a great European country. The leading person of the educational work is the teacher. The culture of communication, good performance of the teacher, look, high professionalism should be an example for students.

The educational events have been held on World TB Day. World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated annually on 24 March. At this day in 1882 German microbiologist Robert Koch announced the discovery of a tuberculosis agent. By the centenary of this discovery, WHO established a day on which people remember those who have died from a terrible disease and hold public awareness campaigns.

Despite that WHO comprehensive support for the fight against tuberculosis worldwide, the level of disease situation continues to concern the public. And, although the incidence rate has fallen somewhat recently, there are not enough grounds to calm down.

In Ukraine, according to the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 22 March 2002 №290/2002, this day is designated as the “All-Ukrainian TB Day” and is celebrated annually on March 24. Annually, 10,000,000 people get tuberculosis, of which 5,800,000 are men, and 3,200,000 are women and 1 million of children. Nearly 1,600,000 people die from tuberculosis every year. This infection ranks 9 place among the causes of death worldwide. WHO has developed a global tuberculosis strategy “End the TB epidemic”. The aim of the strategy is to put the end of the global tuberculosis epidemic by reaching 2035. Targets for reducing TB mortality by 95.0% and tuberculosis incidence by 90.0% (compared to 2015). The strategy also aims to eliminate the catastrophic costs of families with TB problems by 2020.

The goal of this strategy – is informing the population about the disease and preventive measures, promoting a healthy lifestyle. The event was organized as part of “It’s time’s” worldwide awareness campaign, announced this year by the Global Partnership “Stop TB” to raise public awareness of the problem of tuberculosis. World Tuberculosis Day is an opportunity for people everywhere to participate in this fight by spreading knowledge about tuberculosis.

Before the building of the Verkhovna Rada on the Constitution Square, a public action was held by four-meter installation in the form of a clock, on the dial of which, along with the slogan “It is TIME to stop tuberculosis”, instead of the numbers, the main messages of the fight against tuberculosis, relevant for Ukraine, were indicated:

– approval of the National Program for Combating Tuberculosis;

– timely detection of tuberculosis;

– providing treatment focused on human needs;

– reducing the financial burden of people affected by tuberculosis.

Some educational events have been held on World TB Day. Teachers of the department, students, members of the student scientific circle visited on March 24, 2019 the performance “Undress – let’s talk”, which took place on a small stage of the Palace “Ukraine”. This information event and charity photo exhibition was supported by the “Challenge TB” project.

The best results in education are achieved by our own example. Staff of the department actively promote a healthy lifestyle among medical youth. Video lectures on cough etiquette, negative aspects of smoking, alcoholism and drug addiction are demonstrated at the department. Educational work at the department takes place on the principle of attitude to the students as partners, co-organizers of the educational process, depend on the fact that the greatest value of a person is dignity and freedom.
