Scientific activity

Scientific and practical activity of the department of hygiene and ecology and Institute of hygiene and ecology covers 45 Ukrainian companies and 52 organizations abroad.

Scientific integration of the department of hygiene and ecology and Institute of hygiene and ecology into scientific establishments of Ukraine and foreign countries provides research at high scientific level.

The department and Institute collaborate with other Higher Medical Educational Establishments, scientific and research institutes:

  • L.I. Medvid Institute of ecohygiene and toxicology of Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine;
  • Institute of occupational hygiene of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine (AMSU);
  • National agrarian university;
  • Institute of plant protection of AMSU;
  • Institute of sugar beets of AMSU;
  • Institute of horticulture of AMSU.

 

The department of hygiene and ecology of National O.O. Bohomolets has carried out a research “Toxicological, hygienic and ecological basis for protection of pome fruit from pests, diseases and weeds”.

8. Results of the research are recommended for practical application in public health (sanitary and epidemiological service for preventive and regular sanitary inspection, laboratory of research institutions for analysis of pesticide residues), agriculture (agrochemical, toxicological laboratories), Ministry of ecological resources.

The obtained results.

It was established that the use of traditional technical means compliance with established farming and hygienic standards and regulations the use of pesticides to protect crops are safe for workers and the public and low-risk for terrestrial ecosystems. Hygienic standards and regulations for safe use of pesticides in chemical defense system cereals and recommendations to protect them from pests, diseases and weeds that can be effectively used in farms Ukraine were scientifically grounded. Quantitative methods for determining new fungicides, insecticides and herbicides in the environment, agricultural raw foods using gas-liquid and HPLC permission for sanitary and epidemiological control of the use of these preparations and their residue in the environment were developed.

Toxicological evaluation of the combined impact of several different classes of pesticides in laboratory animals and their behavior in the environment.

Development of analytical methods for the simultaneous detection of pesticides in a sample of air, water, soil and food.

Research «Toxicological and hygienic assessment of pesticides tank mixtures when applied to protect crops against major pests, diseases and weeds»» is in progress

Due dates: start – January 2013, finish – December 2015.

Objective of the research: Toxicological and hygienic assessment of tank mixtures of modern pesticides – insecticides, fungicides and herbicides applied for protection and scientific substantiation of regulations for their safe application to protect health of operators, general population, and the environment.

Tasks of the research:

1. Toxicological assessment of pesticides (fungicides, insecticides and herbicides) intensive in agriculture with substantiation of their acceptable daily intakes (ADI) for human.

2. To carry out toxicological and hygienic assessment of pesticides tank mixtures based on investigation of toxicological properties of mixtures in acute experiment, irritation and sensibilization effect, accumulation, mode of action on organism and determine hazardous class according to Hygienic classification of pesticides for hazard level.

3. To carry out toxicological and hygienic assessment of pesticides tank mixtures based on investigation of toxicological properties of mixtures in subacute experiment and determine hazardous class according to Hygienic classification of pesticides for hazard level.

4. Working out of quantitative methods of detection of pesticide residues in air o working zone, atmosphere air, water, crop, soil using thin-layer, gas and high-performance liquid chromatography.

6. Scientifically substantiate hygienic standards of active substances (components of the mixtures):

  • oriented safe influence levels (OSIL) or MAC (maximum allowable concentration) in air of occupational environment
  • oriented safe influence levels (OSIL) or MAC (maximum allowable concentration) in atmospheric air;
  • maximum allowable concentration (MAC) in water;

Scientific novelty of research consists in further development of scientific, methodological and practical aspects of the hygienic problem of application tank mixtures of pesticides in crop protection system. The paper will be the first time:

– toxicological properties (in experiments on laboratory animals – white mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits) tank mixtures of pesticides of different chemical structure and purpose were investigated; safety classification of the degree of hazard according to STATE STANDARDS 8.8.1-002-98 was conducted;

– acceptable daily intakes of new active substances for human on a positions of integrated hygienic regulation were substantiated;

– oriented safe influence levels (OSIL) or MAC (maximum allowable concentration) in air of working zone were substantiated;

– oriented safe influence levels (OSIL) or MAC (maximum allowable concentration) in atmosphere were substantiated.

Practical application of research results. Performance of work will prove scientifically hygienic standards of pesticide active ingredients that are part of tank mixes to be used in conditions of private households and industrial sectors. The survey will be developed, tested guidelines on the definition of new pesticides and their compounds in the environment and fruit crops
