The Department of Social Medicine and Public Health

Academic methodological activity

The academic activity at department is held with students of medical faculties No 1-4, FTDAFU, dental, medical psychological faculties, who study due to specialties “medical care”, “pediatrics”, “medical preventive care”, “dentistry”, medical psychology”.

According to curriculum the department teaches the following disciplines “social medicine and organization of health care”, “economics of health care”, “management and marketing in health care”, “history of medicine” pursuant to typical academic programs, developed by employees of department, and due to provisions of the following regulatory documents:

  • educational qualification characteristics (EQC) and educational vocational programs (EVP) on training specialists, approved by order from Ministry of education and science of Ukraine, dd. 16.04.03 No 239 “On approval of components for sectoral standards of higher education in training direction “Medicine” – 1101;
  • order from MHC of Ukraine, dd. 31.01.2005 No 52 “On approval and introduction of the new curriculum on training specialists at educational qualification level “specialist” qualification “doctor” at higher schools of III-IV accreditation levels in Ukraine due to specialties “medical care”, “pediatrics”, “medical preventive care”;
  • order from MHC of Ukraine No 414, dd. 23.07.07. “On introduction of changes into order from MHC of Ukraine, dd. 31.01.2005 No 52 “On approval and introduction of the new curriculum on training specialists at educational qualification level “specialist” qualification “doctor” at higher schools of III-IV accreditation levels in Ukraine due to specialties “medical care”, “pediatrics”, “medical preventive care”;
  • recommendations on development of academic programs for academic disciplines, approved by order from MHC of Ukraine, dd. 24.03.2004 No 152 “On approval of recommendations on development of academic programs for academic disciplines” with changes and amendments, made by order from MHC of Ukraine, dd. 12.10.2004 No 492 “On introduction of changes and amendments into recommendations on development of academic programs for academic disciplines”
  • order from MHC of Ukraine, dd. 31.01.03 No 148 “On measures for implementation of provisions in Bologna declaration in system of higher medical and pharmaceutical education”.

The organization of academic activity is carried out due to credit module system according to requirements of Bologna process. Credit module system anticipates the rotation of modules and gradual learning in one department during IV, V, VI years of study.

The department is completely provided materially to perform classes with good quality.

The special attention is paid to implementation of the new modern forms of academic activity (photo).

The department is the supportive one on academic discipline “Social medicine and organization of health care”. Accordingly, every year the department holds the methodical meetings with the heads of one-type departments in higher medical schools in Ukraine of IV accreditation level, develops academic programs, prepare and publish textbooks and manuals.

Leading national and foreign scientists, teachers, organizers of health care take part in the work of meetings at supportive department. In 2007 the meeting of supportive department was held with participation of professor from Alabama University in Birmingham Robert Hernandez.

In 2008 the following persons were present and made the speeches at the meeting of department: minister of health care of Ukraine Kniazevych, as well as professor of I.M. Sechenov Moscow medical academy Kucherenko V.Z., assistant professor of this establishment Ekkert N.V., professors of Alabama University in Birmingham Robert Hernandez and Richard Shushak, professor of Saint Petersburg I.P. Pavlov state medical university Petrova N.G. (photo).

In 2009 the chairman in National council on issues of public health care at President of Ukraine, as well as professor from I.M. Sechenov Moscow medical academy Kucherenko V.Z., professors from Caroline institute Yoran Pershagen and Tommy Linne took part in the work of meeting at supportive department (photo).

In 2010 the participants in the meeting of supportive department were professor of Saint Petersburg I.P. Pavlov state medical university Petrova N.G., senior scientific worker in A.D. Sakharov International state ecological university assistant professor Tolstaya O.V.

The leading teachers at department developed the typical academic programs on discipline “Social medicine and organization of health care” (2000), “Social medicine, organization of health care” (2008), “Social medicine, organization and economics of health care” (2009), “Economics of health care, marketing and management in dentistry” (2009), “History of medicine” (2008), “Medical law” (2009).

The employees of department composed, published and distributed the following textbooks and manuals among higher medical schools in Ukraine.

Study guide

The collective of department organizes and holds the seminars, master classes, open lectures with participation of famous scientists and organizers of health care in leading national and foreign scientific and educational establishments. In 2006 the employees of department took part in the organization and performance of seminar of WHO Regional office in Europe at NMU, devoted to issues on use of tools and methods for assessment of human resources and formation of staff policy in health care in countries of European region, where the head at department, corresponding member of NAMS of Ukraine, professor Moskalenko V.F. made the speech (photo).

The first in Ukraine WHO training on basics of evidence medicine for teachers in higher medical schools of IV accreditation level with participation of regional councilor from WHO ROE, leading specialists in Europe was organized and performed on 06-11.04.2009.

Master class on epidemiological researches in 2006 was held by director in the Institute of environmental medicine at Caroline institute, professor Yoran Pershagen (Sweden). In 2007 the department held the master class on management, performed by professor of Alabama University in Birmingham Robert Hernandez (USA).

The leading specialist from Oxford university, head at department of public health, professor Jaff Harold read two lectures on problems of HIV/AIDS at NMU on 28.10.2008 at the invitation from rector of university, head at department of social medicine and health care (photo).

Three lectures on 11.02.2009 were read by professor in Pontifical International Theological University of soul pastorship in the sphere of health care A. Pangrazzi. The lecture on epidemiological researches for ecological health of children was read by professor of Caroline institute Yoran Pershagen on 03.04.2009 (photo).

The master class on issues for training managers of health care in Northern America by professor at Alabama University in Birmingham Robert Hernandez was organized and held on 13.04.2009.

The teachers of department at invitation of foreign colleagues read the lectures in leading foreign establishments. Thus, the lectures by head at department, corresponding member of AMS of Ukraine, professor V.F. Moskalenko “Health care systems in Ukraine were read on 08.12.2008 and 10.12.2009 in Caroline institute (Sweden) and on 11.03.2008 in Oxford university, professor at department Hulchiy O.P. “Medical consequences from Chernobyl catastrophe” (Great Britain, 06.11.2008) (photo).

The high level of teaching and authority of department stipulated its choice by MHC of Ukraine as the basic one for performance of II stage in all-Ukrainian students’ Olympiad (ASO) on academic discipline “social medicine and organization of health care”. This important event is held at the department for 4 years in succession already. Students from all higher medical schools of Ukraine and higher schools, where there are medical faculties. The program of event anticipates the competitions of students in knowledge of theoretical basics for subject according to training program, solution of practical tasks and contest of creative works. Besides, the participants in Olympiad are offered with the cultural program, which includes excursions, visits to theaters, museums, etc.

The winners in ASO are awarded with charters, encouragement diplomas, prizes and gifts. The employees of department, organizers of ASO, receive the words of thanks and letters from students and teachers in other higher schools for high level of preparation for event, friendly attitude to participants, provision with proper living conditions, board, work and rest.

ІІ STAGE IN ALL-UKRAINIAN STUDENTS’ OLYMPIAD
ON SOCIAL MEDICINE AND ORGANIZATION OF HEALTH CARE

On 7-8, April, 2011 II stage in all-Ukrainian students’ Olympiad on academic discipline “social medicine and organization of health care” in which 36 students from IV-VI courses in 17 higher schools of Ukraine took part (15 higher medical schools and 2 classical universities with medical faculties) was held at Bogomolets NMU during the fifth year in succession.

Prize winners in Olympiad were:

Bilous Serhii Viktorovych – student of the V course in Bogomolets National medical university – diploma of the Ist degree;

Bychkov Yuriy Anatoliyovych – student in Lviv Danylo Galytskyy national medical university – дdiploma of the IIIrd degree;

Feltsan Marianna Ivanivna – student of the Vth course in Uzhgorod state medical university – diploma of the IInd degree;;

Geletiuk Iuliia Leonidivna – student of the V course in Bogomolets National medical university – diploma of the IIIrd degree;

Nakonechnyy Mykhaylo Viktorovych – student of the VI course in Lugansk state medical university- diploma of the IIIrd degree’,

Merkulova Iryna Olegivna – student of the V course in Bogomolets National medical university – diploma of the IIIrd degree.

In addition, 6 participants were awarded with encouragement diplomas in different nominations: “For high erudition”, “Non-standard solution of problems in health care”, “Creative approach to fulfillment of work”, “Meaningful and decorative design of work”, “The youngest participant in Olympiad”, etc. All participants in Olympiad received the certificates and gifts. The jury mentioned about high level in training students to academic discipline “social medicine and organization of health care”.

The participants in Olympiad expressed the sincere thanks to rector at Bogomolets NMU, academician of NAMS of Ukraine, professor V.F. Moskalenko, organizational committee for excellent organization of Olympiad, friendly warm atmosphere that prevailed during its performance, comfortable living conditions and board, interesting cultural program.
