The Student Scientific Club was created in 1948. The first head – Associate prof., PhD in MedicineI.Ya. Zavilyanskyi, later the club was headed by Prof. G.L. Voronkov, Associate prof. I.D.Shevchuk, Associate prof. G.I.Selyukov, Assistant O.I.Benesko.
Prof. B.M.Kutsenok, who later organized the Republican Counseling Psychiatric Center of the Ministry of Health and is known for his works on schizophrenia, actively worked in the club one time. Associate professors G.I. Seliukov, P.Yu.Duplenko, A.I.Bursa and Assistant Kh.S. Zhyvago, senior laboratory assistants A.A.Danchenko, R.G.Dolynskyi and O.O.Sharhan also worked at the club.
The main directions of the scientific work of the group are the study of basic mental illnesses – schizophrenia, manic-depressive psychosis, epilepsy, elderly psychoses, neuroses, etc. Issues of addiction medicine, medical psychology, pathopsychology and psychotherapy are also considered.
Also, students of other medical universities of Ukraine visit the group in the framework of scientific cooperation and during conferences.
Club meetings are held on Thursdays on the 1st week.
The topic depends on the reports prepared by the club members on the topic of their own research. At each meeting there is a clinical analysis of the patient difficult in the diagnostic plan.
Three students-club members (T.Ye. Marchuk, S.M. Makarenko and V.I. Semenov) became winners of the international Balint prize (Switzerland).
At the All-Ukrainian Psychiatry Olympiad, the students received:
In 2006– the first and third places, and diploma for the best description of the patient.
In 2008 – the third place.
In 2010– the third place.
In 2011– the first place.
In 2012– the first place
In 2014 – the second place
In 2015 – the first place
In 2016 – the third place
In 2017 – the first place
In 2018 – the third place
In 2019 – the second place
In the 2017-2019 Olympiads, the club members took the first team places.
Most of the former members of the club became psychiatrists at the Kyiv Municipal Psychiatric Clinic.
