The overarching scientific research strategy in the Department is development of new algorithms for early diagnosis, course prediction and treatment of multiple comorbid internal diseases.

Research Themes:

  • Pathogenesis, prognosis and treatment of NSAID-induced gastropathy in patients with osteoarthritis.
  • Hepatobiliary disorders in patients with osteoarthritis: diagnosis, prevention, treatment.
  • Duodenal ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease: diagnosis and treatment.
  • Functional dyspepsia: clinical features, morphological characteristics of gastric mucosa, particularities of treatment.
  • Gastric erosions in patients with biliary tract diseases: clinical and morphological features, particularities of pathogenesis and treatment.
  • Irritable bowel syndrome: clinical and morphological features, particularities of pathogenesis and treatment.
  • Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of hyperuricemia in patients with obesity and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.
  • Noninvasive diagnosis and lifestyle interventions for the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
  • Diagnosis and treatment of comorbid conditions in patients with cardiovascular diseases (hypertension, ischemic heart disease, etc.).
  • Effects of metabolic drugs on cardiovascular and central nervous systems, cerebral hemodynamics in patients with hypertension and chronic brain ischemia.
  • Research, clinical, educational and public activities of prominent representatives of Kyiv School of Internal Medicine.

Department staff members regularly take an active part in the national and international congresses of internists, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, cardiologists, pulmonologists, nephrologists in different countries (Switzerland, United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Thailand, Belarus, etc.).
