History creation of scientific circle. The Student Circle at the Department of Phthisiology and Pulmonology has been functioning since 1960 year, when Professor Pylypchuk Mykola Stepanovych began to manage the department (Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, laureate of state award, academician of the Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Sciences; author of 250 scientific publications, including 10 monographs).
The first scientific supervisor of the student circle is Professor Pylypchuk Mykola Stepanovych.
The main focus of the group at that time was to improve the treatment of tuberculosis patients and non-specific lung diseases.
The subject of work of the first circle created at the department:
– The role of domestic scientists in the development of phthisiology
– The prevalence of tuberculosis in countries around the world
– Features of the causative agent of tuberculosis
– Radiodiagnosis of tuberculosis
– Improvement of methods of antimycobacterial therapy
– Mastering the methodology of spirographic research
– Diagnosis of pulmonary heart
– Blood clotting in patients with tuberculosis
Circle students have participated in All-Union, Republican, City and Institute conferences:
– All-Union – I All-Union Student Scientific Conference of Medical Universities “Tuberculosis Immunology” (September 12-14, 1979 year) – V. V. Petrenko, A. P. Putanenko, and V. V. Rudenko.
Prokhorovich I.V. was awarded the medal as the best Ukrainian circle player (in the 80s).

At the meetings of the scientific group, reports on the implementation of students’ scientific work are heard; clinical examination of patients with respiratory organs and chronic non-specific lung diseases is conducted. Due to the remoteness of the department, students are also engaged individually under the guidance of the teacher. Under the supervision of a designated scientific supervisor and with his help, these students conduct a scientific search; master various methods of study of the cardiovascular system and function of external respiration, modern schemes of prevention and schemes and methods of treatment of patients with respiratory organs and extrapulmonary tuberculosis.
The basic directions of work of scientific circle in modern conditions:
I direction – expansion of mechanisms of development of tuberculosis infection, its diagnostics and increase of efficiency of treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis;
II direction – study of the role of environmental factors (passive and active smoking, ionizing radiation) in the occurrence of bronchopulmonary diseases ;
ІІІ direction – features of clinical course, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis in HIV-infected people.
It is important to note the winners of the I – II stages of the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Phthisiology among the students of the Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine of the III – IU accreditation levels: Larisa Shevchenko (April 11 – 14, 2005, 1st place), Maryna Slobodyanik (April 25-28, 2006) ), Kateryna Volodko (April 24-27, 2007, 1st place) and students Tarantchuk Valentin (April 11 – April 14, 2005) and Andrei Kuts (April 25-28, 2006), who were awarded encouragement certificates.
Today there is an active scientific work of students-circles. They participate in the research of the department and make reports at conferences, congresses and forums, print the results of their achievements in collections and professional medical journals.
There are circle students with diplomas for the best student report: Sergei Igumnov (Dnepropetrovsk, 2002), Andriyak Artem Alexandrovich (Kyiv, April 8, 2005 – I place), Shevchuk Tatyana Pavlovna, Herman Lyudmila Vasylivna (Kyiv, April 8, 2005) ) – II place), Malyutina VV (Kyiv, 2011, 2012), Zarubina OK (Kyiv, 2011, 2012), Vodianik A. (Kiev, 2013).
Mamotenko AV, Eremenko VD awarded 1st degree diplomas for winning a poster presentation competition among young scientists in the framework of a poster session (Chernivtsi, October 1-2, 2015 year).
Circle students take part in foreign medical congresses, scientific and practical conferences of students and young scientists, awarded with certificates and diplomas:

– Kudlatska -Tishko Irina – Certificate of participation in the “Student April Scientific Session – 2017”.

At the Third Student Grant Conference (April 2017 year) Yu. Kukharivska (5th year, medical faculty №3) and Baran S.Z. (senior laboratory assistant, department of biochemistry) received a grant to perform a research paper on “The risk of hematotoxic reactions in the treatment of tuberculosis depending on the genotype of cytochrome C4502E1 (CYPZE1)”.
At the “Student Scientific Session April – 2018” (Section “Phthisiology and Pulmonology” (Kyiv, April 2018), the following students’ diplomas were presented with diplomas:

From 2010 to 2021 years, students prepared numerous printed scientific papers in professional periodicals and abstracts of scientific conferences
MEETING OF STUDENTS OF BOGOMOLETS NATIONAL MEDICAL UNIVERSITY WITH SCIENTISTS FROM THE USA (September 1, 2017)
During the visit of scientists from the USA and their meeting with students of Bogomolets national medical university summed up the results of scientific research:
– development of new methods for diagnosing tuberculosis in children (Providence Boston Center for AIDS Research, CFAR).
– epidemiological analysis and detection of predictors of tuberculosis treatment results in patients of different age groups.
While working in medical institutions in Ukraine, researchers from the USA outlined a plan for further work. Scientific work is of practical importance for reforming the tuberculosis control system. NMU students asked their colleagues from the USA about the peculiarities of studying in medical schools and the peculiarities of the work of doctors in the country.
STUDENTS’ PARTICIPATION IN THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPICS
From the Department of Tuberculosis and Pulmonology, students of Bogomolets national medical university took part in the International Olympiad “Samarkand – 2020” (December 11-12, 2020, Uzbekistan). The supervisor was Dr. Med. Sciences, Professor of Phthisiology and Pulmonology Pikas Olga Bogdanivna.
Participation of students in the Olympiad “Samarkand – 2020” is marked by diplomas and certificates:
Barna Alina Fedorivna (4th year, medical faculty №4, 1 group) – diploma for the 2nd
place in the international olympiad “Samarkand – 2020”.
Feshchuk Lyudmyla Serhiivna (4th year, medical faculty №4, 1 group) – certificate for participation in the international olympiad “Samarkand – 2020”.
The Department of Tuberculosis congratulates the students who took part in the
Samarkand 2020 Olympiad, as well as its winners, and wishes inspiration and new achievements in the field of science.
