History Of The Department

The creation of the Department was preceded by a lot of work. After the foundation in 1841 the Medical Faculty of the University of Kiev, and later the Medical Institute (13 December 1921), the TB lectured in the departments of internal medicine.

A lot of attention to the study and teaching of tuberculosis gave Academician Theophil Gavrilovich Yanovsky, who headed the Department of Hospital Therapy at the Medical Institute.

The author of the first in the USSR “Tuberculosis” manual (1923). One of the organizers of the Kiev Institute of Tuberculosis and Pulmonology (11/28/1922), which bears his name.

 

In 1924 in the Kiev Medical Institute Habilitation on tuberculosis was established, which was in charge until 1929, Professor Anton Ivanovich Sobkevich.

AI Sobkevich born 01.03.1883 in the village Maksimovic, that then belonged Radomyshlsky County Kiev province (now Zhytomyr region). He graduated from the Kiev Theological Academy, Sofia, and then seminary. Training required by the state to work for three years in the direction. Competition in medicine has been so great that we had in 1904 entered the Medical Faculty of the Tomsk University.

Becoming a medical student with his head out in laboratory studies, he wrote the first scientific work. He is interested in the properties of spring water, honey. He is interested in the natural strength of Siberians. For his work “Analysis of bird blood” gets first gold medal. Gets second medal for the determination of the amount of sulfur in the urine. Of course, such a straight-A student, after graduation from medical school (1910) left the university. He works as a teacher, conducts research work in the clinic and the laboratory. During the First World War was on the Western Front, he was the chief sanitary doctor of the hospital-infection (1914-1918). In 1918 he returned to Tomsk, worked as a teacher at the Medical University. In 1918 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Medicine. In 1921 he was elected as a permanent researcher at the UAS, he moved to Kiev and from 1922 he worked at the Kiev Medical Institute (Associate Dean, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine), and with 1924 .. Head of the Habilitation of tuberculosis. In 1926 he was appointed director of the Kiev Institute of Tuberculosis, which he headed until 1929

In 1931-1935 Anton Ivanovich appointed professor of Kiev Pharmaceutical Institute, then – researcher of the Kiev Research Institute of Food Hygiene (1935-1938).

AI Sobkevich paid much attention to the scientific analysis of TB symptoms, the development of rational nutrition of patients with recommendations. Along with lectures on TB, he organized workshops on TB for future doctors. Wizards on TB rate in this period worked WH Oksyuzov and GR Sidorenko. Employee Habilitation V. X. Oksyuzov proposed device for applying artificial pneumothorax, who also was written and published work on treatment and sanatorium treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Assistant Sidorenko studied the issue of occupational therapy in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. AI Sobkevich was an active member of Ukrainian medical institutions, member of the Presidium of the Medical Section AUAS (1929) and a member of the Terminology Commission. From 1938 on health grounds was not working. Anton Ivanovich died 12/23/1945. He was buried in Kiev Lukyanovka cemetery (plot number 13-II, row 10, seat 1).

In 1934 in the Kiev Medical Institute Department of tuberculosis was established, which until 1946 was headed by Professor David Y. Epstein.

DY Epstein was born on 09.25.1871 in Kiev. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna in 1896 and in 1900. At the Medical Faculty of the University of Kiev has passed the exam for the title of “Russian doctor.” In 1924 he defended his doctoral thesis on the topic: “Treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis by artificial pneumothorax”. Dr. med. Sciences 1925 Professor 1940.

After defending his dissertation, David Y. Epstein in 1929 he appointed associate professor of TB rate in the Kiev Medical Institute. In 1934, the tuberculosis rate was reorganized into the Department of tuberculosis, which was headed by Professor DY Epstein and directed it until 1946. Bases Habilitation and tuberculosis department were tubercular ward of the October Revolution and the first TB hospital of the city of Kiev.

Thanks to tireless energy DY Epstein managed to create a well-equipped clinic for the treatment of patients with tuberculosis, which has become a model school for students and doctors.

D. J. Epstein has published more than 40 scientific papers on various aspects of TB, improved treatments for tuberculosis by artificial pneumothorax. Of particular interest are his monograph “TB patient Soul” (1927), “Artificial pneumothorax” (1931), “Tuberculosis and the autonomic nervous system” (1931), “Tuberculosis, its prevention and treatment” (1943). Assistant at the department of tuberculosis in this period worked DL Shmain, I. Umansky. Fruitful was the work of associate professor AI Kagan. He performed research on tuberculosis of the larynx, the use of pneumoperitoneum, classification of TB, treatment of pleurisy.

Great achievements DY Epstein in the organization of the fight against tuberculosis in Ukraine. He was the founder of 1st TB Scientific Society in Kiev, chairman of the committee on tuberculosis Academic Medical Council of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, deputy chairman of the Kyiv Society and the Society of TB TB specialists of Ukraine, member of the USSR Ministry of Health Council on TB. Died DY Epstein 05/06/1946 75 year of life.

From 1948 to 1960 the Department of the Kiev Medical Institute of Tuberculosis in charge Professor Vladimir Rudin. VP Rudin was born on 06/08/1912. In Lucyna area of the former Vitebsk province in the family of a teacher. After high school he entered the Minsk Medical Institute, after which in 1933 worked as an epidemiologist and TB specialist in the Polotsk district, Vitebsk region.

From March 1934 to August 1941 labor activity VP Rudin held in Yalta Research Institute of Tuberculosis, where he was an intern, Scientific, and then senior researcher. Author of over 100 scientific papers on topical issues such as age-TB reactivity of patients with tuberculosis, diagnostics features, clinic, pathogenesis and treatment of tuberculosis in young people, the elderly, tuberculous meningitis and new methods of Climatetherapy tuberculosis. At the final stage of work in Yalta Vladimir P. Institute of Tuberculosis Rudin in 1940 he published a monograph “Aerotherapy TB patients in the cold half of the year on the southern coast of the Crimea.”

From 1946 to 1948 V. Rudin was a lecturer at the Department of Tuberculosis Lviv Medical Institute. At the same time in combination was Deputy Director for Science of the Lviv Institute of Tuberculosis. In 1947 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the topic: “On the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis and cold air baths.”

In August 1948 VP Rudin by competition he was elected head of the Department of Tuberculosis and professor in the Department of the Kiev Medical Institute. In 1951 he published a monograph “Tuberculosis” (cortico-visceral pathology and therapy). Lecturing possesses great talent. His lectures for students were always informative and easily perceived.

Under the leadership of VP Rudin made three dissertations (BA Berezovsky, MS Pilipchuk, Pokotilo DI). During this period, he worked at the department Assoc. Sidorenko and founder ftiziohirurgii in Ukraine, a gifted clinician VN Savic, assistants – NK Mironov, V. Demyanov. VN Savic has developed a modification of extrapleural thoracoplasty successfully made the ductus arteriosus ligation, performed for the first time in Kiev pneumonectomy.

After leaving the department in September 1960 Professor VP Rudin headed the dispensary department of the Ukrainian Research Institute of Tuberculosis, where he worked until 1977.

Along with the scientific and pedagogical activity, carried out major public work: he was twice elected to the Yalta City Council, member of the Academic Medical Council of NO3 Ukrainian SSR, a board member from 1960 to 1996, the Department of Tuberculosis headed Honored Scientist of Ukraine, laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine ( 1977), Academy of Sciences of Higher school of Ukraine, doctor of medical Sciences, professor Nikolai Stepanovich Pilipchuk. Author of 250 scientific works, including 10 monographs, 5 editions of the textbook “Tuberculosis” for students of higher educational medical institutions (HEMI) Ukraine III-V levels of accreditation, he became the author of four inventions was a member of HEMI of USSR, created a scientific school, has prepared 11 doctors and 48 candidates of medical sciences. In 1983, on the tuberculosis department of pulmonology course was attached, which was headed by Assoc. YD Usenko.

MS Pilipchuk born 05.22.1926 in the village of Selyatino Stolin district, Brest region in a peasant family. During the Great Patriotic War was a guerrilla unit connected. From October 1944 to December 1945 he served in the Soviet Army, demobilized in 1945 in connection with a serious illness. In 1946 he entered the Kiev Medical Institute, after which the Academic Council has been recommended with honors in 1952 for scientific work. In 1955 M. Pilipchuk defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences, and in 1963 -. The degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the theme “Clinical evaluation of surgical treatment of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis” Dr. med. Sciences – since 1963, Professor – since 1964, Vice-Rector for clinical work – from 1965 to 1970.

MS Pilipchuk constantly improve forms and methods of tuberculosis teaching instilled optimization methods and technical means in the student learning process.

The main scientific direction MS Pilipchuk – development of methods of diagnosis and improve the treatment of patients with tuberculosis and nonspecific lung diseases. As a result of research into clinical practice in place of heparin, donators and galaskorbin sulfhydryl groups for the prevention and elimination of side effects tuberculostatic. The expediency of the use of proteolytic enzymes in patients with tuberculosis and suppurative lung disease, developed a method of intravenous administration of isoniazid, ethionamide and PAS, as well as continuous infusion tuberculostatic into the pulmonary artery. Mastered and hemosorbtion been established, endolimfoterapiya modified lateral approach with resection of lung and bronchial stump suturing technique, applied to pneumoperitoneum with lung resection, developed the rehabilitation of health. He showed the possibility of pulmonary resection only plasma-solutions and with the application of autologous blood. Created a new direction in the study and application of the aerosol, the status of the lung surfactant system, the mucociliary apparatus, blood barrier in diseases of the respiratory system. He conducted experiments on animals for lung transplantation. Under his leadership, successfully developed the problem of treatment of patients with tuberculosis, chronic alcoholism.

Based on materials research published “Atlas of resection of lung and pneumonectomy” monograph “Collapse surgery pulmonary tuberculosis”, “Surgery of tuberculosis of the lungs and pleura”, “Tuberculoma lung, pleura and mediastinum”, “intravenous antibiotic treatment of TB patients with purulent lung diseases”, ” tuberculous meningoencephalitis, “” Medical rehabilitation after operations on the lung, “” respiratory diseases “, four editions of” Tuberculosis “textbook and others.

MS Pilipchuk paid great attention to medical work. Constantly consulted patients in practical health care institutions Kiev, Cherkassy and Chernigov regions. They performed more than 1500 operations on the lungs. Under his leadership in the department of tuberculosis increased by 185 qualified doctors internship courses at the Faculty of professional development of teachers – 85 assistants, 34 assistant professors, 29 heads of departments. MS Pilipchuk took an active part in the work of Congresses TB specialists and international scientific co-operation, he was co-chairman of XX International Congress of TB specialists, member of the International Union Against Tuberculosis, chairman of the city, the deputy chairman of the Republican, a member of the board of All-Union Society TB specialists, a member of the editorial board of the journal “Medical case “, a member of the editorial board of the journal” Problems of tuberculosis, “deputy” tuberculosis “interdepartmental collection editor, member of the Republican Commission on TB problem. For ten years he was a member of the expert commission WAC USSR, seven years – the executive secretary of the magazine “Physician Business”, more than five years – the pro-rector of the Kiev Medical Institute named after AA Bogomolets on medical work. Nikolai Stepanovich Pilipchuk – a veteran of World War II, was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, medals “For Victory over Germany”, “For labor valor”, “For valorous work”, six commemorative medals, three characters “Winner of socialist competition”, the sign ” Excellent health. ” For achievements in training of medical staff and the development of medical science it twice thanked NO3 SSR. He was awarded the Diploma of the Council of Ministers of the USSR State Committee for Publishing, Printing and the Book Trade. Honored Scientist of Ukraine, laureate of State Prize of Ukraine for the scientific development of pulmonology care system in Ukraine.

Working 48 years at the front of the fight against tuberculosis, MS Pilipchuk has established itself as a highly qualified specialist on tuberculosis, a brilliant clinician, teacher and humanist, a great culture man who had love and respect both among patients and among the general mass of physicians and students. Died MS 07/21/1996 Pilipchuk in Kyiv. He was buried at the cemetery Baikove.

Since 1997, the Department of Tuberculosis and Pulmonology of the National Medical University named after AA Bogomolets charge of MD, Professor Vasily Petrenko, doctor of the highest category in the field “phthisiology” and “pulmonology” Excellence in Education of Ukraine, Honored Doctor of Ukraine.

Vasily Petrenko graduated from Kyiv Medical Institute (now the National Medical University Bogomolets) with honors, was recorded in the Golden Book of Honor graduates and recommended for scientific work.

Thesis “Content and correction of application of isoniazid, rifampicin and streptomycin in tuberculosis bolnyih, oslozhnennyim lyehochnyim chronic heart” protected in 1986.

Doctoral thesis: “The system of eicosanoids and principles of pharmacological correction of disorders in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (clinical and experimental research)” protected in 1997.

The author of 7 books in including the national textbook “Phthysiology” Ukrainian, English and Russian, 2 teaching aids “Phthisiology”, has over 300 scientific papers and 18 methodical recommendations, 10 patents and 5 innovations of the main issues of tuberculosis and respiratory disease , a typical curriculum and training program for Master of Medicine in “phthisiology” phthisiology educational programs for students in higher institutions of III-IV accreditation and model curriculum and training programs for interns.

In 2007-2008. Created and headed the Committee on HIV / AIDS and other socially dangerous diseases. A civil servant in the fifth grade.

From 2010 to 2015 Dean of the Medical Faculty №3 Bogomolets National Medical University.
