The first in Ukraine department of industrial hygiene and occupational diseases was organized in 1923 in Kyiv medical institute. It had the title “department of occupational hygiene”. Since 1993 the head at department is corresponding member in NAMS of Ukraine, Doctor of Medicine, professor Yavorovskyy Oleksander Petrovych.
The department of industrial hygiene and occupational diseases brought up within its walls and gave the scientific passion to the whole pleiad of scientific and scientific pedagogical specialists, who worthily brought and bring the creative traditions, put into the way of their creative life by department of industrial hygiene at Bogomolets NMU, into hygienic science and pedagogy.

In each academic year, the following disciplines are taught at the Department of Hygiene and Ecology No. 2 according to the curriculum:
– “Hygiene and ecology” on the 2nd and 3rd years of the Medical Faculty №4;
– “Occupational health and safety” in the 3rd year of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and 2 year of the Medical Faculties № 1-4;
– “Hygiene and ecology” at the 6th year of Medical Faculty №2.
The 3-th year Hygiene and Ecology program includes 180 academic hours (30 hours of lectures, 70 hours of practical classes and 80 hours of individual work (IW)).
The hygiene and ecology program for 6th year students of the Medical Faculty №2 studying in the specialty “Medicine” includes 75 academic hours (40 hours of practical classes and 35 hours – IW).
The program in the discipline “Occupational Health in the field” for 3 courses of Dental Faculty and 2 courses of Medical Faculties is designed for 90 academic hours (4 hours of lectures, 26 hours of practical classes and 60 hours – IW).
The department has a lecture course of about 66 hours in the fall-winter semester and 60 hours in the spring-summer semester.
