THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF OPHTHALMOLOGISTS “OPHTHALMIC HUB” TOOK PLACE

The international conference of ophthalmologists was held on 30-31, March, 2018 under protection of O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University and under assistance of Public Union “All-Ukrainian Alliance of Ophthalmologists” for the first time in Kyiv. Over 700 ophthalmologists from all regions of Ukraine took part in representative event. 12 speakers that represented 8 countries from Europe and America presented their own vision for development of world ophthalmology.

Under conditions of modern reforming the health care system, the Conference first of all has become the efficient professional platform for exchange with experience, discussion of the acutest problems in world and Ukrainian ophthalmology and adjacent medical directions, consolidation of cooperation, uniting all, who work in ophthalmology and its adjacent segments and establishment of uniform ophthalmologic space.

Doctor Kirk Stephenson, Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, Ireland within the Conference informed the colleagues about experience in establishment of National register of hereditary diseases and its influence on organization of ophthalmologic aid to patients. According to his words such data will enable researching the history of disease and possible risks for origin of disease or prevent from its development.

In his turn Doctor Matteo Di Bari, Italy, shared with his experience in establishment of telemedicine in Italy, in particular, as to its active use in popularization of screening and early diagnostics of ophthalmologic diseases. In his opinion, such methods are extraordinarily urgent under conditions of reforming the primary chain of health care in Ukraine.

The participants in the Conference from European countries also told in particular about researches in the field of genetic therapy in ophthalmology, 3D surgery, transplantation of the retina, newest surgical techniques.

The leading Ukrainian ophthalmologists shared with their achievements. The working meeting and the training for heads at departments of ophthalmology at higher medical schools with representatives from International Council of Ophthalmology, which takes care of medical education of ophthalmologists at all levels – professor Helena Flippe from Portugal, Chairman in Committee for Constant Professional Development at International Council of Ophthalmology, member in Committee of High Technology Methods of Teaching and Learning the Ophthalmology David Keegan member in Board of Directors of National council of blind people (NCBI) in Ireland, Chairman in working group for prevention from impaired vision in European network of group for the rarest diseases, member in scientific medical council Retina International were especially important. The participants in discussions discussed the peculiarities in system for training of ophthalmologists at postgraduate stage and approaching the program for postgraduate training of ophthalmologists in Ukraine to world standards for their competitiveness in world medicine.

The participants could learn the newest diagnostic and surgical equipment, new remedies, which were presented at the exhibition.

The event was held in innovative format of multidisciplinary cooperation. The neurosurgeons, esthetical surgeons, rheumatologists, psychologist, medical advocate and dietarian took part in conference “Ophthalmic Hub”.
