THE 2ND STAGE IN ALL-UKRAINIAN OLYMPIAD IN DISCIPLINE “SURGERY” TOOK PLACE
The second stage in all-Ukrainian Students’ Olympiad in discipline “Surgery” took place on 5-6, April, 2018 at O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University under aegis of department of surgery No 4. The participants in contest were 26 students of medical higher schools from all regions of Ukraine, who showed the best results during selective stage at their universities.
The work of Olympiad started on 5, April from solemn opening, which was held in V. Yurychko lecture hall No in morphological building of O.O. Bogomolets NMU. The welcome speeches to participants were made by pro-rector in scientific activity, Doctor of Medicine, professor T.M. Cherenko, pro-rector in scientific pedagogical, treatment activity and postgraduate education, Doctor of Medicine, professor V.H. Mishalov, as well as members in contest commission – Doctor of Medicine, professor at department of surgery No 4 A.O. Burka, Doctor of Medicine, professor at department of surgery at SE “Luhansk State Medical University” H.Yu. Buka, Candidate of Medicine, assistant professor at department of hospital surgery at Zaporizhzhia State Medical University M.H. Holovko, assistant professor at department of surgery of postgraduate education at Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University O.Yu. Atamaniuk. After that the responsible person for organization of Olympiad, head at students’ scientific club at department of surgery No 4, Doctor of Medicine, professor V.V. Khrapach announced the procedure for performance of the contest, regulation for assessment, as well as the program of cultural measures at Olympiad. The participants also received the memorable gifts from Society of Esthetic Plastic Surgeons – rucksacks with logo of Olympiad.
Further the participants from other cities visited the excursion at museum of departments of normal anatomy and histology, after which completion the first stage in contest – testing – started. The unit of tasks included 30 tests from USMLE booklets, translated into Ukrainian. And in the evening all participants could visit the National Opera of Ukraine, ballet “For two hares”.
The second day of Olympiad was held at department of surgery No 4 in Oleksandrivska Clinical Hospital in c. Kyiv, where the participants had to demonstrate the practical skills on modern phantoms in presence of contest commission.
Further according to the program, they performed the closing ceremony and awarding the winners. Professor V.H. Mishalov welcomed all present people and emphasized that regardless of results from Olympiad, all participants are already the winners as they had appeared among 26 best students from the whole country. As well, Volodymyr Hryhorovych wished everyone the success and aspiration in the future occupation. Professor V.V. Khrapach mentioned that the results this year have significantly been improved in comparison with last year, as well as that the participants demonstrated good level of practical skills. Vasyl Vasyliovych told that the future of Ukrainian surgery is in reliable hands and wished all participants keep the contacts with each other as the new connections and arrangement of contacts is the most important purpose of such events. As well, the professor thanked the students – members in club, who took part in organization and performance of the Olympiad – Pidchenko Yu.D., Fomenko N.S., Hrishov A.
After that the results from work of contest commission, which defined three winners of the Olympiad, were announced. They are:
- ІІІ place – Semenchuk Olha Viktorivna – student of the 6th course in Sumy State University (24 scores);
- II place – Danyliuk Liubomyr Mykhailovych – student of the 6th course in I.Ya. Horbachevskyi Ternopil State Medical University (25 scores)
- I place – Nikolaienko Sofiia Ihorivna – student of the 5th course in O. Bogomolets National Medical University (33 scores).
Professor V.H. Mishalov awarded all winners, participants and students-organizers with valuable gifts from department of surgery No 4 – pulseoxymeters, auscultoscopes and electronic tonographs. The Olympiad was completed by excursion to M.M. Amosov National Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery.
