MASTER-CLASS “EMERGENCIES IN PEDIATRICS”

On 28, March, 2018 they performed the master class on topic “Emergencies in pediatrics”, which was held by assistant at department of pediatrics No 4 Yurii Kryvonos. 16 students from the 1st-6th course and doctors-interns took part in work of the event. The master class was held in the form of continuous dialog with the lecturer; the participants asked and answered the questions. The main attention was paid to the learning the algorithm “Basic Life Support” from American Heart Association, which includes:

  • Survival chain from American Heart Association;
  • Cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with the use of automatic external defibrillator (AED) by one or two rescue workers at adults/children/babies;
  • Difference in performance of CPR at adults/children/babies;
  • Performance of artificial breathing at adults/children/babies;;
  • Artificial and auxiliary ventilation with Ambu-bag and mask;
  • Identification and removal of respiratory tracts obstruction with foreign body.

After acquaintance with BLS algorithm the participants in master-class mastered the abovementioned skills on children’s mannequins under attentive supervision of moderator. This is the second master class for emergencies in pediatrics, which was held by the department. The first one was held in November, 2017. The employees at department supported the initiative of dean’s office in medical faculty No 3 and the desire of students in medical faculty No 3 and since April they start the trainings, which will include 3-5 classes for students in groups per 15 participants on constant basis. The training in April-June will be held for students of the 1st-2nd course in medical faculty No 3, since September – for students of senior courses.
